Captain Disaster the Computer Game is the main home of the Captain Disaster adventure games and related projects by Dave Seaman. The site brings together information on the games themselves, along with screenshots, trailers, walkthroughs, media coverage and occasional side projects. Most of the focus is on comedy adventure gaming, with a mixture of freeware releases, commercial titles and experimental smaller works. No generative AI is used in any of the Captain Disaster games. I do experiment with AI in other contexts, and where I've blogged about these, I clearly indicate this.

What goes into making an adventure game?

A couple of (possibly) interesting stats regarding Captain Disaster in Death Has A Million Stomping Boots:

  • Emails exchanged between team members about the game's development: over 500 email conversations (ranging from 1 or 2 to 50 or more emails in the discussion) - and that's just the ones I've kept!  This doesn't include chats and Google Group posts.  It's a fairly conservative estimate to say that we've swapped over ten thousand messages of one kind or another.
  • Shared files (again, this is only the ones we've actually kept) - currently the Google Drive is showing 3,449 files in 217 folders, taking up 1.73Gb of storage space.

And we're not quite halfway towards the finished game yet - yikes!

Lots of new screenshots from the latest build

Please bear in mind that these may be incomplete or lacking characters / objects that will be put in later.  One or two are close-up views not the whole screen:

Stats, stats and more stats!

While we are in the process of getting another build done, after which I'll post some more screenshots, videos etc, here are some stats about the game:

- 36 Rooms

- 17 Characters
- 929 Sprites
- 602 Lines of speech
- 2 new specially composed music tracks recently added to the game
- Many lines of alien gibberish dialogue

There's still a steady stream of new people downloading the demo:
From AGS: 933
From Softpedia174
From ModDB69
From GameFront20

Total: 1,196

One of them left a very nice comment recently too - "Downloaded the demo just now, great fun! Definitely worthy of a commercial release."
